May 5 is the National Awareness Day for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, also known as Red Dress Day.
Inspired by Jaime Black’s REDress Project, Red Dress Day was first commemorated in 2010. This day is for remembering and honouring those lost, raising awareness of the crisis, coming together in solidarity and support, and taking action to end the violence against Indigenous peoples.
The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte will be hosting a vigil at Market Square in Belleville on Friday, March 5 from 7-9pm. The community is welcome and encouraged to attend this important event.
