The Campaign to Acquire a Groundbreaking Residential Healing Centre

The Sexual Assault Centre for Quinte and District is now offering a new program that will provide sexual assault survivors with even more opportunity to be healed, transformed and empowered. The Sexual Assault Residential Healing Program is a one-of-a-kind program, pioneered by SACQD.

The Sexual Assault Residential Healing Centre will be a unique facility that will offer sustained, intensive therapeutic counselling in a safe, healing residential environment.

In a peaceful setting, close to nature, the program combines well-established psychological counselling techniques with some of the highly effective confidence and trust building techniques from Outward Bound.

Participants in the residential program will have time to relax and recharge, without the pressures and distractions of everyday life. For many, it will be the first time they will be free to focus on themselves, reach out to others with similar experiences, and develop the strength and momentum they need to heal.

Program Activities include:

• Therapeutic interventions that reframe the impact of sexual abuse: psychotherapy and role playing
• Participating in a safe and supportive group process
• Supportive sessions and trust-building exercises with peers and professionals
• Learning new lessons for emotional connection and release in a safe group environment
• Changing old beliefs and thought patterns into life enhancements
• Methods for healthy communication and positive reflection
• Creative expression through arts, music and horticultural activities
• Outdoor exercise, healthy whole food, and fresh air
• Nature walks, personal connections and warm companionship
• Relaxation, de-stressing and plenty of sleep
• Peace, quiet and soothing solitude

Proven Results of Previous Programs

The SACQD’s decision to proceed with a Residential Healing Centre is based on the resounding success of its Residential Healing Program.

In a series of week-long programs for both men and women, participants reported life-changing personal growth and renewed strength to function and succeed in day-to-day life. Many emerged from the program with new friendships and connections, and a far greater sense of community.

The SACQD’s Residential Healing Program confirmed that a sustained combination of confidence-building activities, companionship and counselling, in a peaceful, natural setting resulted in greater healing and empowerment of survivors.

The $1 Million Fundraising Campaign

The SACQD has established a fundraising goal of $1 million to establish the Sexual Assault Residential Healing Centre. Your donation will be used to purchase a suitable facility in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties - which will become the healing centre where we will offer the one week Residential Program.

The SACQD’s many community partners, including local addictions services, mental health and child protection agencies, law enforcement services and health care facilities, and shelters, are enthusiastic supporters of this project.

$1,000,000 Residential Healing Centre Campaign

The Sexual Assault Centre's Residential Healing Centre Campaign will run from December 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011.

We need 100 individuals, couples, groups or teams to come on board and each raise $10,000 for our cause during this time frame.

Each of the 100 supporters is responsible for raising the money through fundraising events of their choice, or personally donating the $10,000.

Whether we know it or not, all of us are connected to people whose lives have been affected by sexual assault. When you make a donation to the Sexual Assault Residential Healing Centre Campaign, you will be contributing to a local project that directly improves the lives of fellow citizens.

You will also be a founding supporter of an historic program that will serve as a model for Canada and the world. Quinte’s residential healing program is a significant step forward in the treatment of survivors of sexual assault. It will make Hastings and Prince Edward Counties a centre for innovative thinking and progressive practices related to this field.
